Explored a variety of children's and adolescent literature, comparing the books to their film versions, and engaged in rhetoric regarding the political and social implications of both the literature and the films .

Examined the theories and practices of providing accommodations for at-risk readers.
Methods and Materials for Teaching Children's and Adolescent Literature

Used texts and articles to develop a language and perspective for evaluating and conversing about children's and adolescent literature. Explored the kinds of conversations that surround pieces of literature and how to involve children in them.

Considered the aspects of several artistic fields, photography, film and television, music, architecture, and fashion, in order to determine what it is that makes them compelling. Attempted to find ways to transfer the characteristics of compelling experiences into the arena of education in an effort to discover how to move students to see, feel, and respond in new ways.
Concepts of Educational Inquiry

Investigated the four domains of educational inquiry, interpretation, and criticism: classroom based or teacher research, theories of intelligence and the curriculum, history and biography, and ethnographic participant observation and reflection.
Concepts of a Learning Society

Examined what is meant by the phrase "learning society", the primary domains and activities of the learning society in their historical, social, economic, and cultural contexts, and the experiences and views of individuals living and working in the learning society. This was accomplished by considering learning at work, at home, at school, and away from home, as well as strategies for learning in an ever-increasingly wired world.
